It typically emerges during the latter stages of pregnancy, usually after 20 weeks, and ends after childbirth. Failure to manage it poses risks for both you and the fetus, potentially leading to complications. Here are tips to prevent high blood pressure during pregnancy.

  1. Maintain a healthy weight.
  2. Eat a balanced diet and keep your salt and sugar intake low.
  3. Stay active by walking or exercising several times per week.
  4. Avoid the off-limits like smoking, alcohol-containing beverages, and illegal drugs.
  5. Get plenty of rest and 8 hours of sleep.
  6. Talk to your healthcare provider about any concern you have about your blood pressure or risk for developing hypertension.
  7. Keep your prenatal appointments during your entire pregnancy.
